Prov’l government honors ZN Awardees

Achievers in their own right, recipients of various awards yesterday proudly received the honors given by the provincial government during the Achiever’s Awarding Ceremony at the Plenary Hall. Gracing the occasion was Mr. Eric Buhain, current chairman of the Game and Amusement Board, who represented Executive Secretary Eduardo R. Ermita, who failed to arrive yesterday.

Buhain, who is also the son-in-law of Ermita read to the audience the speech of the Executive Secretary congratulating tremendously Zamboanga del Norte for a very successful 53rd celebration of the founding anniversary of the province. Gov. Rolando E. Yebes, in his message stressed that this is the first time the province is honoring deserving individuals who have helped and extended unyielding services to the province unconditionally.

“The province should take its first initiative to recognize these people who gave prestige and honor to Zamboanga del Norte and that is what we are doing now,” he added. The chairman of the Awards Committee, Provincial Attorney Jes Gal Sarmiento has also expressed his gratitude to all the benefactors and awardees who have achieved excellent ratings in the various fields of endeavors, during his opening statement.

The Awards and Plaques of Recognition/Appreciation/Commendation and Service were presented by Gov. Rolando Yebes, Vice-Gov. Francis Olvis, Cong. Cely Carreon of the 1st District and Mr. Eric Buhain. For the Achiever Awards, nine (9) ZaNorteans were awarded, namely: Mayor Caesar Soriano of Siocon; Ms. Felicisima Magcanta; Mr. Rosendo Labadlabad; Atty. Oscar Tomarong; P/Sr. Superintendent Jufel C. Adriatico; Mr. Leo Cimafranca of DXKD; Zamboanga Foods Corporation; Sibutad Tourism Council and Union of Subanen Tribal Communities.

Everyone took pleasure in watching yesterday the 1st ZANORTE Boxing Competition held at the grounds of the Provincial Capitol Building.

Boxing enthusiasts from various municipalities huddled and cheered to their chosen contender as they exchanged blows with their sparring partner.

High-leveled punches from amateur yet pugnacious boxers totally excite the crowd, as over ten boxers maneuvered to win the title of being the next boxing champ. Provincial Sports Development Coordinator-Designate Mr. Rolando G. Yebes, Jr. stressed that the boxing competition is fit to be included in the 1st Hudyaka Zanorte Festivity, “because through this we can produce our own version of Manny Pacquiao who will eventually bring home honor to our province” Yebes disclosed. “In unity there is strength.” This was the statement of Gov. Rolando E. Yebes during the Achiever’s Awarding Ceremony, yesterday.

Gov. Yebes expressed his appreciation to all the government officials of his province for participating the 1st Hudyaka ZANORTE 2005 festival, especially the three dynamic congressmen of Zamboanga del Norte and municipal mayors for making the celebration truly grand because of their commendable participation for the success of the festivity.

“For 53 years unity had been one of the major glitches in this province, we thought that we were coming from different tribes,” Yebes further stated. It was very eminent in his speech that the governor was very delighted to learn after Saturday’s nightly show “Sonata sa Sabado” that Mayor Norbi Edding of Sibuco felt for the first time that his municipality is truly a part of Zamboanga del Norte.

Diniay wins ZNUC Singing Star tilt

Glen Diniay of Barangay Dampalan, Dapitan City won the Search for the Singing Star organized by the Zamboanga del Norte United Correspondents (ZNUC) last night at the ATI booth area. Julie Bicoy of Governor’s Village, Dipolog City got the second place; Rechemae Baguio of Jose Dalman got the third place; Vince Guinsan of Sapang Dalaga on the fourth place.

Glen Diniay of Barangay Dampalan, Dapitan City is this year’s Grand Champion in the Search for the Singing Star organized by the Zamboanga del Norte United Correspondents (ZNUC).

Other singers who did not make it to the top 4 were Ian Omandam of Titay, Zamboanga del Sur and Ryan Turno of Sindangan  and Mary Jephte Nodado of Victoria Country Homes, Polanco. Onlookers flocked the place and enjoyed hearing the tuneful sonata rendered by the seven grand finalists.

ZNUC President Celestine “Nick” Carbonel extended his gratitude to the provincial government of Zamboanga del Norte for the support given and to the sponsors who have also continuously supported the prestigious show. “The organization will showcase another singing competition next year that will truly help boost up confidence to our young local talents in our province and soon we will witness another Regine Velasquez in the making,” Carbonel disclosed. Off-Road competition concluded

Out of twenty (20) contenders ten (10) made it to the top. The 1st Hudyaka ZANORTE Off-Road Competition has successfully ended yesterday.

With competitors from various cities in the country, racer from Tagaloan 4x4, Richard Emano emerged winner of the 20 racers who competed, followed by Albert Monte de Ramos of Cagayan de Oro Off-Road who got the 2nd place; 3rd place, Robert Abas of WAIG Adventure Team-Bukidnon; 4th place, Timtom Gempesaw of 1-Wheelers Davao; 5th place, Alex Bason of Iligan Off-Road; 6th place, Harry Uy Taring of 4x4 Club Dumaguete; 7th place, Rey Samante of Unlimited Off-Road Dipolog; 8th place, Richel Acabal of Unlimited Off-Road Dipolog; 9th place, Frederick John Juanico or 4x4 Fun Club KORE and on the 10th place was Peter Chuang Jr. of 4x4 Dumaguete.

Exhibition game with NCM Bandal

National Chess Master Judge Rosendo B. Bandal, Jr. of Dumaguete City played Chess with a number of dexterous players from the province during an exhibition game at the pool side of ZN Convention and Exhibition Center yesterday. Three (3) players were able to defeat Judge Bandal and sixth of them were declared draw.

Thirty-four (34) local chess masters played the 3rd Simultaneous chess exhibition game, which started at 1:30 in the afternoon and ended at 10:00 in the evening.
